Our goal is to raise $2,000 to create paid opportunities for 8 to 12 artists of color -- women and TGNC folx! -- sharing their stories in their voices. These performers and writers will be showcased in the in-person return of our annual show, In Full Color, this October at the Barrow Mansion in Downtown Jersey City. Every year, this show has helped moved audiences of all genders and colors and uplift BIPOC femmes and TGNC folx. -- You can help us make this happen again!
featured performances include:
MUSIC FROM "YOU'RE A STAR"
featuring Ali de León, Justin Galletto & Vero Verano
Catch an exciting preview of In Full Color's new educational musical, which will be touring schools and community centers starting next fall! In "You're a Star," friends Leehanna, Xia and Carlos plan to enter a talent contest together but can't seem to stop fighting on the big night! They sing solo songs spanning genres (pop punk, rap rock, big ballad) about the things that make them feel “other,” but that also make them totally unique. Through the competition, the singers learn to love themselves – and accept and respect each other!
LAUGHS BY NANCY MÉNDEZ-BOOTH
Nancy Méndez-Booth: Artist. Puerto Rican descent. NYC-born. JC-based. Winner of the JCAC 2020 Literary Arts award, and three-time In Full Color alumna. You've most recently seen her in our series That One Comedy Night making her stand-up debut -- but while that was her first time at the mic as an official comedian, it was far from her first time making us laugh. She brings new hilarious work to Bloom this April.
POETRY BY JACKIE SANTOS
Jackie Santos is a feeler, educator, and writer native to nowhere but proud to call Jersey City home. Her writing untangles the dualities within her identity as a melanated woman, Afro-Latina, and empath. Writing often feels radical, healing and like home; she says, "Welcome, thank you, and please, make yourself at home." You've seen her at Jersey City City Hall's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, Newark PorchFest, the Hoboken Public Library and at several of IFC's virtual showcases for corporate and educational clients. Now, she brings a new poem -- a love letter to her younger self, and to young Black girls around the world.
We also have some incredible raffle prizes including two VIP tickets to In Full Color 2023 (Oct. 13 or 14), $150 of PR and social media services from Crystal Letters, a signed copy of the When Women Speak poetry anthology edited by Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal, a self-defense and self-care kit from Angry Asian Womxn, a customized Books I Held book and literary art kit curated by Eileen Ramos, a signed copy of CUT WOMAN by Dena Igusti and an Asian American Literary Review book set with fun extras donated by Eileen Ramos. You do NOT need to be present or local to win (though some shipping costs may apply). You can buy raffle tickets right through the main ticket portal.
Bloom (at Home) is on Saturday, April 15 from 6 pm to 9 pm at La Sala, a secret venue in Downtown Jersey City.
