Seeking Stories, Poems, Music & More for In Full Color 2023 (Paid, Non-Union)

Award-winning feminist arts and education organization In Full Color is seeking monologues, poetry and stories from women of color and other BIPOC of marginalized genders for its eponymous theater show, In Full Color!

The hit show is returning for its seventh season -- and first in-person mainstage presentation since 2019! -- with more stories about love, loss, family, food, work, culture, education and more. Femmes, trans men, non-binary folx, women and others of marginalized genders are welcome to submit. Our writers/performers have spoken about everything from being mistaken for a terrorist and dating while Asian to what really matters about Black lives.

𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧

The show will have two performances -- Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 -- from 7 pm to ~8:30 pm on both nights at the Barrow Mansion, 83 Wayne St., Jersey City. One of the shows, TBD, will be followed by a brief talkback with the audience. Friday's performance will be preceded by a tech rehearsal approximately from 3 to 5 pm at the venue. Please do not submit if you are not available on these dates.

All performers will receive at least one initial Zoom virtual rehearsal and two in-person individual rehearsals in Downtown Jersey City. Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the performer and the director's availabilities. We also hope to have at least one group rehearsal and runthrough prior to Oct. 13.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗜 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗠𝗜𝗧? We are primarily seeking monologues and poetry, but are also interested in music and dance. Works should give audiences a glimpse of what life is like in the author's skin. Pieces MUST be under five minutes long and should ideally have minimal set/props/tech requirements. If you are submitting work in a language other than English or Spanish, please include a translation if possible.

𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗬? Self-identified BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) folx of marginalized genders (women, femmes, non-binary folx, trans men) may apply. LGBTQ+ folx, Disabled folx and others from other marginalized communities are encouraged to apply. Writers should ideally be able to perform their own work in-person in Jersey City. Non-local writers may also apply; their work will be performed by a local actor of a similar background. This production is PAID! Our plan is to pay every artist $300 for each show. (There may be some adjustments made depending on the individual nature of each piece, if multiple performers work on one piece, if the same performer is in multiple pieces, etc.) A meal will be provided on Friday, Oct. 13 after tech rehearsal.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗜𝗙 𝗜 𝗔𝗠 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗗? You will be invited to a Zoom audition/interview where you will perform/read your piece. You may be asked to re-read the piece or a section of it after receiving a direction from our director, Summer Dawn. You may be asked questions about your artistry, passions, etc.

If you are selected, you will be invited to join our Artist Roster and be eligible for future paid work with In Full Color. You will have at least three hour-long rehearsals with our founder and director Summer Dawn between 9/1 and 10/12. You will be expected to memorize your piece, learn staging and perform for audiences! All authors retain rights to their work. Your work will not be performed or published in print in its entirety without permission. Please note, however, that your work will be recorded during all shows. In participating, you agree to allow IFC to record and share footage of your work.

Folx who are not selected may still be invited to join our Talent Pool which will also make them eligible for future paid work with In Full Color.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚? All participants will a link to video of their performance. All writers will also be eligible for inclusion in our next anthology. You will also receive an estimated $600 in total for both performances. You will receive more details upon your acceptance. After the show, alumnae may be eligible for further opportunities such as participating in our educational touring program as a performer or contributing writer -- We paid artists ~$10K in 2022 and are looking to surpass that in 2023! Lastly, you will also enjoy the love, support and sisterhood of your fellow alumni~ 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 Submissions Close: Monday, Aug. 14 Acceptances Emailed By: Friday, Aug. 18 Rehearsals: Sept. 1 through Oct. 12 (individual schedules TBD) Tech Rehearsal: Oct. 13, slated for 3 pm to 5 pm Shows: Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗦?
