In-person events return with Newark PorchFest music festival

Newark PorchFest will be In Full Color's return to in-person programming, featuring tunes by Ali de León and M. Josephine!

The free outdoor music festival runs Saturday, Sept. 25 from 12 pm to 6 pm in Newark's Forest Hill neighborhood as a fundraiser for GlassRoots. In Full Color will be on from 2 pm to 3 pm at 541 Parker St. with two musical sets plus poetry by Jackie Santos and IFC founder Summer Dawn. There will also be visual artists showing work onsite.

Here's our rockstar lineup:

Ali de León is an independent recording artist born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Prior to 2012, Ali's focus was on theatre. Although music was always a part of her life, she never thought she would pursue it. In 2012, Ali was studying abroad in England, away from her family for the first time, and heartbroken when melodies and harmonies became the only way of release. From then on, Ali began to write music. She is also a two-time IFC Alumna and regular performer for TIFC under the name Alicia Rivas.

M. Josephine is a Jersey City born and raised creative entrepreneur and mother of two. Growing up in a single mother household along with her love for music, inspired her to pursue a professional journey that would combine community upliftment and the arts. Mary worked with a local 501c3 Jersey City non-profit that assists entrepreneurs and small businesses. She is an accomplished singer and recording artist, who continues to use her talents to engage fellow creatives in the community. She has produced showcases and performed as M. Josephine alongside various underground heavy weights such as M1 of Dead Prez, Silent Knight, Rugged N Raw, John Robinson and The Band Called FUSE. She is the founder & president of Inspired Artist Movement, a platform for artists and creatives to move their career forward while empowering them to use their voice for positive social impact. She is also the founder of Goddess Ntwrk, a space and resource for womxn to heal their trauma and celebrate their inner goddess.

Jackie Santos is a feeler, educator, and writer native to nowhere but proud to call Jersey City home. Her writing untangles the dualities within her identity as a melanated woman, Afro-Latina, and empath. Writing often feels radical, healing and like home; welcome, thank you, and please, make yourself at home.

Summer Dawn is the founder and director of In Full Color. She's also an events coordinator, ex arts journalist, writer, owner of many shoes, actress, activist, collector of rubber duckies, karaoke diva, marketing pro, secret dancer, organization expert and teaching artist. She’s Asian/Hispanic and lives in Jersey City, N.J.
